Yeah I've got a Peavey Century Head that i've used for bass, guitar and both bass and drum machine once when our PA broke just before a gig. Got mine really cheap and I saw one go on US ebay for $21 recently. I tried to sell mine a while back but no-one bid on it so i've decided to keep it. I like it (for the price anyway).

I bought it new in Israel 5 years ago or so. I don't remember what's the exchange rate was back then so I can't really tell how much it was, more than that, gear in Israel is super expensive. it'll be x3 of what you could get it for in the states.

The amp sounds great on great, it's very clear and detailed with enough high end, unlike other amps which make you feel like they're taking off some of the highs. Besides of playing clean, which I don't do that much, I really turning the gain and boost to 10 and control the overall signal with the master volume. It has a nice overdrive.

As for bass, that's my favorite amp. I don't know if it's because I have this rig for a long time now and learned how to make it sound the way I want, or if it's just good. Anyhow, it sounds great for a TJL bass sound, kinda kick you in the nuts. It will also sound good for Jah Wobble kind of sound. I never tried to get a "60's bass sound" out of it, I'm not sure how great it'll sound if you wanted to play in a Love or Beatles cover band, I guess that it also depends very much on how you play.

I also like it for bass when the preamp is overdriven, it's nothing like an Ampeg V4 though(Tim from Silkworm kind of sound).

wait! you actually asked for the price. I think you can get them for fairly cheap, especially the "older" models, such as Mk III.

Ampeg V-4, not the V-4b. The V-4b has gain reduction when using the ultra Low switch, and the regular V-4 has a bright switch which you can use to approximate a presence control. You can also get away with using a V-2 for bass in a low volume setting.

Either that or get one of those old Kustom heads that have 2 inputs. They're all-purpose.

you can do the "kerble" and use a pre-amp for guitar like the traynor ts50b.
so yeah, i'm a pussy.
