I've had 2 of them for about a year. I can't really speak for their durability, since they've never left my house. A couple of people on the page I linked to mentioned that the switch on theirs was "starting to go", but they still seemed to like the cables. I didn't notice any change in sound when switching to them. I have noticed a change in clarity / high frequency when switching between crappy and non-crappy cables, too.

I've been using the regular planet waves cables for about 5 or 6 years and I don't want to use any other cables anymore. I reached this conclusion shortly after I started using them. They are really durable. I think I've had about half a dozen or so and only one has ever stopped working on me. The others are still in rotation or I've lost them.

Prior to switching to these I was like AvsB. I only used cheap guitar center on sale types of cables. When I did switch I totally noticed a pretty significant change in sound. Mainly there was more of it and it was clearer sounding.
Good Luck,

My recommendation:
Canare GS-6, with Switchcraft 1/4" mono instrument ends (straight or 90) and you can use inexpensive heat-shrink tubing to provide strain relief.

all in all, a 20' cable costs about 15$ and will last until you do something stupid to it.

+1. I have been rolling my own cables for many moons now and a better man for it.

The Mogami equivalent of GS-6 (I think it's 2524) is also good. It has the same annoying-as-shit spiral braid but that probably helps make the cables so resilient.

The Bismarck has yet to lose a cable in the line of duty and we're a bunch of idiots who have broken two kick drum pedals in half and somehow managed to crack the housing of a Boss tuner pedal. We are tough on pants, as they say.
