The Chuck Wagon on Central Street in Wilmette.
The L will go up to the Linden Street station which is the last stop on the purple/red line. Exit the station then walk west up Linden to 10th street then take a right and walk 2 blocks to Central street and then take a left and it will be across Central on the north side of the street next to the Wilmette movie theater and Baskin Robbins. It's a tiny place so it can be easy to miss.
Once inside you order a gyro with their award winning homemade sauce and whatever else you like on it. Get a side of fries as their fries kick some serious ass. I don't think they've changed the oil since 1975 or so.
Good luck and make sure to report back to us.
where can I get a good gyro?

13If anyone does ever actually go to the Chuck Wagon and wants to be a little adventurous, try ordering the "Waitress Special" which is a grilled cheese with gyro meat or the "Nikki Special" which is a burger with gyro meat on top.
Seriously people, this is the best gyro place in Chicagoland, even if it is in Wilmette.

14If you go to Summerfest in Milwaukee, get one there. The old guy used to yell at you if you asked for a Gyro pronounced with a hard G.."No, it's YEEROH! YEEROH! Augh!"

They should have banned that shit in Chicago, not foie gras.
Though the gyro omelette is delicious usually when offered. I make them at home from time to time. Gyro meat is a fantastic breakfast meat if you ask me.
