I read somewhere that the sound waves are directly effected by humidity. That Steve Albini has a special hudification unit that allows sound waves to be transmitted more clearly. This study of humidity and sound wave transmission is the "special sause" of his recording techniques"

This humidifyer the Ampeg HUM-1 was used extensivily during the recordings.
