Servotron and Supernova were so fun! They didn't really fit in with the rest of the label's roster, but perhaps that'swhy I have a special affection for them.

I haven't heard most of Surgery's catalog, so I'm just going off of the Peel Sessions comp and a couple singles that have come used through the record store, but the half-dozen tracks I've heard have been uninspired funk-rock hack crap. Seriously, they sounded like an indie Living Colour. And that "Dear Sweet Laura" song is fucking gay.

If I wanted to listen to gay indie funk-rock hack crap, I'd listen to Beefeater.

Then I'd hang myself.

I'd be willing to give Lubricated Goat another listen, although they didn't do much for me eight years ago.

EDIT: As far as Vertigo goes, I always just liked Hammerhead better.

Great: Boss Hog, Chokebore, Cows, Helmet, Melvins, Servotron, Tar (even though I much prefer the T&G stuff), Unsane, Dope Guns N' Fucking comps, Porn (Screwed) soundtrack.
I have CDs of Janitor Joe and Calvin Krime but I can't remember what they sound like. I love Surgery's blues cover off the Jabberjaw comp, but their major label stuff is weak.
Never really got into the straight-noisier AmRep bands like Hammerhead, etc.

I didn't know Nashville Pussy was on AmRep... I see Killdozer on the discography, too; they were NOT CRAP, obviously.

I'm surprised how no one seems to like the god bullies on here, but today is the day and chokebore get NOT CRAPS... seriously, are we listening to the same thing? Huh.
Anyways, this label was great, releasing some of the best material of the 80s, but always had this unfortunate lean toward a thickhead metal sound. This is a minor complaint, though, because basically they released some great stuff.

One of the labels I look to in the past for the music I should have been listening to when I was there.

Tar is definitely NOT CRAP, but Toast is seriously repetitive - an entire album of maybe 2 songs. Their other ones are better.
