The Metro letters page, at least in the Scottish edition, is a relentless and depressing showcase of the state of the nation. Dunbar's 'Idiocracy' reference was spot on.

I'll second DRC's appreciation of their arts/events coverage though. They've always been happy to mention nights that my radio station has put on, and have given us 'featured event' coverage a couple of times. It's not bad for gig listings either.

I'll have a flick through it on the bus before I can get to the Union and buy my 30p Guardian. Plus they had some good pictures of some tower blocks that got demolished last week.

and Nemi is OK. There's definitely worse comic strips out there.

(also, I just remembered a shitty joke I made once about being a metrosexual but getting arrested for fucking a rolled-up newspaper on the bus)

Utter, utter crap. A paper with negative value: it depresses the circulation of real newspapers and drives up cleaning bills in subway systems. Not to mention what happens when drifts of Metros catch fire in the subway tunnel, which has significantly eroded on-time performance in the NYC subway (and I'd imagine others).

Fuck it in the face with something gangrenous. I hate Metro.

AM New York isn't distributed by a human at my subway stop, it's thrown on the ground in a bundle, waiting. Unloved. Uncirculated by hands, at the mercy of commuters to exert their freedom of choice.

Metro is distributed by a guy who is so jaded and over it all that taking his paper is sort of a dangerous prospect. The look on his face seems to say: c'mon, I dare you to take this. Take the fuckin' paper. C'mon and take it.

Nemi is fucking awful. As bad as George and Lynne in the sun, but sans even the dubious titillation of cartoon knockers and the seething undercurrent of wife swapping. Oooh, I've given myself a cartoon boner.
The single "joke" used day in day out in the Nemi is "Oh I have done something embarrassing/irritating/irrational but deal with it because I am a goth/woman/suffering from PMT."
Oh and the ents bit is ok. News is dull dull dull.
