I recommend starting big and and making it as universal as possible to follow. Let's say you owned a piece of land. You want to get it surveyed not just where you're building your house, but also where the property lines are, for future development. You also don't want to draw a map based on that survey that has "towards my favorite landmark" replacing magnetic north.

You know, I just re-read my post and it's full of shit. If you have the money and time to wire it, I'd go big. I'm frustrated as hell with our current setup.

Thanks for the replies so far.
ebeam, it's not full of shit. I realized that I will need 2(or 1 and a half) 96 points patchbays to squeeze just what I need comfortably. That is, not using all the groups, not using the inserts for the channels I'm using, etc'.
btw, I do own some outboard, nothing that justifies a big patchbay. 3 (maybe 4, soon) comps and 3 outboard pre's. Once I get the patchbay done, I'll rack another preamp. yeah, not much, but i decided not to buy anymore equipment until I get the current stuff all wired and setup.

Well, thanks. I mean the patchbay routing and wiring, really. It's a gigantic mess. We are able to track and mix in the box, but no outboard shows up at the patchbay yet, there are some grounding issues we have put bandaids on, can't mix down through the console... I have it all laid out in excel, but a second patchbay and 40 man-hours would solve most of our problems. Anybody want to be our intern?
