I'd like to see a battle of the bands, precious indie bands on one side, and Whitehouse on the other.
Fantasy aside, Belle is better. I can at least stand Belle & Sebastian.

The Decemberists are the band that started off a song called "The Perfect Crime #2" with these lines:
"Sing, Muse, with passion of the pistol.
Sing, Muse, of the warning by the whistle."
This is so far beyond conventional definitions of ordinary lyrical pretention that it rises to a whole new plane of ostentatious, pointlessly literary pomposity - within indie rock.
Belle and Sebastian at least never did that.

Belle and Sebastian, while not really my thing, have songs that I can enjoy well enough.
The Decemberists? They can line up single file and suck me dry.

I actually like a few B&S songs...
...and at least they never wore gae early Americana costumes...

Belle and Sebastian absolutely slay this dome.
The Decemberists are total crap. Forgettable indie shit. In ten years no one will even remember this band. Horrid lyrics, pretentious as fuck.
B & S are at least honestly wuss-rock. Some great songs in their catalog. And people that listen to them dance like the Peanuts, and are mostly cute.

Two totally different kinds of ghey.
One is some nerdy, skinny folk singer who is trying to get nerdy, skinny poon by dressing 'Ole Timey' and throwing out some frilly words while making his already nasal voice sound like it's recorded from the bottom of a 20 foot cardboard box. (More power to him I guess...)
The other is simply the skinny guy in the crowded bar who flips his blonde hair around, tries to talk to me (about music , sure) 10 inches from my face just before 'accidently' brushing by me and making contact with my crotch area.
Unfortunately, the actual swish variety has some cool enough instrumentation that it keeps my interest just long enough for me to take a couple breaths and say to myself, "Oh, yea. I forgot that this fucking sucks."
Enough with these 'what's worse' thunderdomes already. Gimme good stuff.
