That's a lot of beards to have in the one place. I hope they have adequate fire escapes.

the real shocker is Billy Gibbons appearing in a Nickelback song/video.

Shame on you, Billy Gibbons.

Yeah, but Billy is also producing a Roky Erickson album. I can forgive a lot after hearing that.

Rick Rubin is kind of a cheeseball, but sometime he gets it right, and I believe he respects ZZ Top and their music. I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

Signing to prick rubin's label is a shocker?

Christ, man, you need to find better terms. ZZ Top signing to American is a surprise and a mild one at that.

A shocker would be, "Billy Gibbons cut his thumb off in an unfortunate accident with a carving knife, a thanksgiving turkey, and three naked women." That would be shocking.

I think this could be good; provided Rubin doesn't fuck it up.

I think cautiously optimistic about sums it up for me too. Rubin probably does respect the Top's music but there's still something about his recordings that really grates on me. I'm sure it will still be better sounding than anything they've done in a very long time, but i'm really not looking forward to Korn fans telling me how 'real' ZZ Top are.

The 3000 seater style shows sounds great, but are almost guaranteed not to happen over here.

'ZZ Top mild surprise' wasn't the topic title i was looking for. I'm sure you can understand that not every single word i say or type is 100 percent deadly serious all the time. Well actually, i was mildly shocked as i stumbled across the news at hilarious o'clock in the AM and i was really confused as whether i should be excited or not. Got people reading the thread at least.

It would be great if they release a johnny cash cover album.

IIRC, I think Steve Hoffman is remastering all of ZZ's 70's era material on that warner site becausesouundmatters.com
