I think the idea is good. In practice, however, it is : "You fuckers are few and poor. You will do whatever we say.". The EU is doing a lousy job concealing their true intentions in this matter.

I firmly believe every criminal from any country should be tried and imprisoned for their crimes. That's not what the Hague Tribunal is doing.

I had no idea there was that kind of national hero kitch trade with war criminals in Croatia.
I've seen some of it in Serbia, with these ultra-crass "Serb Heroes" T-shirts depicting Milosevic and Karadzic, but I had no idea a similar phenomenon existed in Croatia.

So, if I may ask, who are some of the more popular ones in Croatia?

I was in Croatia last year and right beside the house we stayed in was this giant patriotic billboard of a general looking off to the distance with a Croatian flag background. Being the inquisitive sort that I am I asked everybody who this Ante Gotovina was. I got a 100% 'He's a hero' response from the people. He's in the Hague as far as I know. You can make up your own mind here.

But yeah Croatia has it's fair share of war-crimes-loving folks. To be honest it's not that difficult for me to understand the reasons behind this. I may not agree, because I have objectivity on my side, but I do understand.

Norac was pretty popular, but that fad is over.
Ante Gotovina has been HUGE for years now. Which I think is not strange. He was crucial in freeing a big part of Croatian territory which was under occupation for years. A bunch of people's lives were directly affected by this.

Unfortunately, a lot of the people who hang up pictures of generals on their windows don't do it only because they're grateful the Serbian army isn't threatening them anymore, but also cause they think it's quite alright to smoke every goddamn Serb out of his hole and send him back where he came from. This sucks very bad.

We should so make love and not war, I tell you.
