When I played in the Glenn Branca "orchestra" two years ago (80 guitars/20 basses) I wondered: out of that many guitars, would I be the only Travis Bean?

Since Branca attracts the kind of guitar geek (I mean this in the best possible way) that would own at least one, I figured that there would be about 10 or 15 of them present.

I was one of only three, but the other two were the guys from Godspeed You Black Emperor!, which was pretty neat. We bonded over neck care tips and the fact that they hadn't had Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

After two days of rehearsal, I remedied them of the latter.

Say, would you know if there are any plans to release a recording of that piece? Considering the number of guitars and the location of the performance, it certainly has the aura of History clinging to it.

So you say efrim and dave from gybe played with branca? I cant seem to find any record of it. When was it? What pieces did they play on? Do tell as im a huge fan of the godspeed....

Dunno Dave's last name, but Efrim's listed in the ensemble for Hallucination City, the 100-guitarists piece of which we speak.

It wouldn't be worth listening to because it's not the same as it would have been to actually be there.

Sometimes you miss some shows, but that's life.

Glenn had talked about having the Ensemble re-perform the piece in a place like Julliard (presumably to record it the way they record orchestras) but AFAIK it never materialized.

I always thought it was a good idea, and to make it a fundraiser for the LMCC whose offices got destroyed (they were at the top of WTC's northern tower, IIRC) - they were the financial backing for Hallucination City.

Some people made recordings of it the day it happened, but they don't sound so great because they weren't sitting in the optimal place.

Part of me is glad there isn't an "official" recording, because nothing could match the exhilaration of actually *playing* the piece (not to mention the strained arms afterwards).

just wanted to get some input from all you guys on an idea. would any of you be interested in a solid aluminum guitar and bass that combines all the wonderful features of a veleno and travis bean. i dont know if you guys feel this way but i have always had problems with all brands of aluminum guitars. velenos are way too expensive and they have bolt on necks and are completely hollow but have the solid neck with makes for a incredible sound, travis beans have so much aluminum machined away that you get an overly chimey sound but are neck thru (not complaining by the way...they sound fantastic) and i wonder what they would sound like being solid, and last and least varraco and kramers....all i can say is they are the gay cousin of the guitar family that no one likes to talk about. would anyone be interested in such a instrument? they would be solid t6061 aluminum polished to a high gloss. no wood would be used...so yes aluminum fretboard and everything. four prototypes are being made (3 guitars and one bass) and steve has been a big help in designing it. the actual body/neck design is quite unique and has caught the eye of everyone who has seen these things and all have been very impressed by it. feedback would be fantastic.

i would be most definately interested, if you have specs and pictures and could put them up that would be really cool.i've been waiting for someone to do something like this ever since that last batch of beans came out and were discontinued.

I don't make these, but they are solid aluminum guitars done by the guys in The New Brutalism. I bought one and really like it.
