The EH Holy Grail has the most decent reverb for a stompbox......
But seriously, I think part of the consumer-psychology game of audio equipment is no one will think of one of their own mics as the Holy Grail, but they will think of it as their best thing at the time for its desired application. No, usually the Holy Grail is the mic we have yet to get. Royer 121 is my electric guitar Holy Grail, but that's because I don't have one and can't really afford it.
One band I recorded rented a Neuman and a Neve for their vocals, I thought I would be floored. It did not match the girl's voice that was singing and I was shocked at how "meh," it was. Might have been the best thing ever for more of an Elvis voice. This is the danger of fetishizing gear.
This is why you see so much praise for the working heroes of affordable mics: EV Re20's, Shure Sm7, Beyer m201, Sennheiser md421, AT 4033, Shinybox ribbons, AKG C4000B, Heil PR40/30, Shure KSM141 etc. These are mics that normal people can make great recordings with if they know what they're doing, not Holy Grails.
If you're rich or your studio is full time and pro buy some Neumans, Coles, Royers etc. They will be awesome mics and you will be envied like the lady with a Gucci bag at a cocktail party.
