why is this a 'truly bizarre concept'? If I'm spending a good deal of money on a regular basis, why wouldn't I want to make sure I'm not inadvertantly supporting the KKK or some shit? I was just hoping someone could point me toword some Smoking Gun type website that would give some information on breweries/distilleries that have particularly nasty political affiliations.
Bulleit is good shit. I may have to make a trip to Binny's today to pick some up.

Companies in the business of selling alcohol are banking on the hopes that you are an alcoholic. This is not conspiracy theory, "smoking gun type" stuff, this is institutional fact. The more you drink, the more money they make. Thus, it is the hope of the brewery/distillery that you drink so much that you can't live without it.
Drink responsibly, though.

Your conclusion is based on assumptions about the motivations of people you have (most likely) never met, and is a gross generalization distilled from the actions of a few corporations. Woo hoo for the Internet!
Perhaps this is the case with industrialized/corporate alcohol producers (see X years of talking frogs, tits & ass, and "WAZZZZUP!" used to lure people toward poisonous swill), but there are a number of (usually small) companies that produce and sell alcohol because it's what they're good at and they love it. This is the case with most any industry, food being a prescient example, but it applies to audo recording equipment, kitchen knives, record labels, and software companies.
I dunno, maybe the guys with tiny vineyards secretly dream the world will become full of alcoholics so they can push their labored-over wares on a bunch of soused automatons, but I have my doubts.

15Further to recent discussion, I have in my left hand an empty Kronenberg 1664 can. In my right hand I have a full glass of Kronenberg 1664. (I'm typing with my nose.) "Brewed in the UK by Scottish Courage Ltd.", which is probably to one of the two multinational brewing conglomerates in Europe what V2 is to Virgin.
Still, it's tastin' mighty good.
Mmmmmmm.
