I've got a DVD of them at their peak, and it's fantastic. It must have been taped before some of them got too fucked up. They seem coherent and at the top of their game.

I wrote a song in 1981 called "Gimme Some Junk". Westerberg from the Replacements wrote a song around the same period called "Johnny's Gonna Die". It's funny how these little coincidences happen.

They were very influencial on me and my gang. We played with that same abandon, but none of us ended up as junkies, thank the lord.

"Pills" & "Subway Train" are really great songs. That first album is backloaded to these ears. I'm not a big fan of "Vietnamese Baby" or "Frankenstien" when they are up against Side 2. Too Much Too Soon is good fun as well.

I was left a little cold by the new line up (The Two York Dolls) as it seemed a bit too cleanly played (esp the Thunders replacement, but who can really replace Johnny Thunders?) but that's okay. Being only 30 I never thought I would ever see a Dolls show, unless I had found a time machine.
