Sting=Crap. Early Police on the other hand...not crap. Stewart Copeland is an amazing drummer, and the band had some really good songs, but after awhile, the whole band just got ridiculous. I'll stick with not crap because of the handful songs I actually like, and Mr. Copeland's fine drumming.

Police = not crap
Sting solo = crap
Sting's entire musical career = high waffle factor . . . I say not crap.

Heard "Can't Stand Losing You" the other day and thought, "hey! this song is pretty good!" Almost forgot it was the Police. The drumming, she is well executed.
I can think of a handful of other Police songs that I like, but also a good number that are abysmal and bland, much like Sting's solo career. Not crap, heavy waffles.

Reggatta de Blanc, Outlandos d'Amour, Zenyatta Mondatta, and even some of Ghost in the Machine are all the reasons why I vote NOT CRAP. Great songs, great playing.
A band that can make things I usually dislike (busy drummer, a jazz chorus guitar player, a falsetto singer) into great music has my genuine respect.

Are you kidding? So very NOT CRAP and waffle-proof, despite that awful d-bag, Sting.

This one is hard. I ignored it the first time it appeared, as I didn't want to think about it.
I still don't want to think about it.
The Police were my favorite band in 6th and 7th grade. I can probably still hum most of the songs.
I like Sting's voice back then. The playing gets to be a bit much, esp. later in their career.
Roxanne, pretty good.
Walking on the Moon, just plain good. This song has aged quite well, I find.
Don't Stand So Close to Me, pretty good.
Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, pretty good.
Invisible Sun, very good song and good version of it.
Every Breath You Take, good song w/a few naff lines. Inspired changes that were ripped off about a million times in the couple years that followed.
The rest of Synchronicity is pretty bad. Some of it is dreadful.
The DSSCTM remake is abysmal.
Most of the rest is bearableish.
I guess they have three very good songs and a handful of good ones. A decent best-of makes them not crap.

JUst for the sake of pointless argument, I'd like to ask how much this applies to Sting himself. Has he ever really been guilty of show-offy playing? If so, I haven't heard it. For one of the most 'legendary' bassists in the world, it seems like he was doing a lot of 'duh-duh-duh-duh' type basswork, especially with the Police.

A band of great verses and horrible choruses*.
I'm not voting.
*by 'choruses' I mean both the pedal and the song-part.

This version is such a diservice to the original that it almost overshadows my utter disdain for sting. So horrible, complete shite. Let us never mention it again.
The band as a whole was great. Not Crap.
( i just remembered there are 2 horrible remakes of DSSCTM! )
The one on the first 'best of' and the Sean 'p. diddle' Combs version on the Sting Police best of. Fawking shit mang! Leave that song alone.
Who gots the batter? i'll have waffles for breakfast.
