What was the last great R.E.M. album?
11Automatic For the People was the last bearable R.E.M. record.
Better yet, eat the placenta!!!

REM, up to Green, Not Crap. Post Green is putrid. Agreement with Sir Geiginni in regards to Reckoning as peak: a slow decline to Green and then a sharp drop-off.

The oddest thing about R.E.M.? All of the early records
sound much, much better on vinyl. Why? I don't know.

R.E.M. makes some of the worst-sounding records I have ever heard. Really tinny and uninvolving. Just plain awful. The CDs don't sound much worse, in my opinion. I agree that Fables is a good album. It has some really haunting songs, but also catchy. Old Man Kensey really hits me.

REM rivals The Who and The Pixies for the band most consistently overrated by folks with otherwise decent taste.
The only REM song I've ever vaguely enjoyed is "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"--not bad when blaring over the speakers at the gym, but it might be the testosterone talking.
