Speaking of 1980s punks, check out this C.O.D. show! Wtf!

Who the heck was Strike Under?

REM, up to Green, Not Crap. Post Green is putrid. Agreement with Sir Geiginni in regards to Reckoning as peak: a slow decline to Green and then a sharp drop-off.

Yeah, I'd say one song, "Camera", was about the best thing they ever did. "9-9" off Murmur was really good too.

Great cover by Howard Finster too....

Ciao Scimpanze. Ciao gieginni.

So beautiful, these internet compatriots.

But please to make of explain to me. Please to make of explain of how "Fabli di Reconstruzione" is better record than "Automatic for the People"?

Please to make of explain! For is my brain to explode of the thinking!

You have made me crazy in the brain, signores.

Fables of the Reconstruction si a fine album.
The oddest thing about R.E.M.? All of the early records
sound much, much better on vinyl. Why? I don't know.

When (and where) I went to high school, the difference
between R.E.M. and the Butthole Surfers was nill. If you
listened to either of them, you were a freak. Period.

R.E.M. makes some of the worst-sounding records I have ever heard. Really tinny and uninvolving. Just plain awful. The CDs don't sound much worse, in my opinion. I agree that Fables is a good album. It has some really haunting songs, but also catchy. Old Man Kensey really hits me.

Back in the old days, recording quality was the line in the sand between
the major and the... minor... labels. When I say "much, much better",
I mean it as a relative term.

REM rivals The Who and The Pixies for the band most consistently overrated by folks with otherwise decent taste.

The only REM song I've ever vaguely enjoyed is "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"--not bad when blaring over the speakers at the gym, but it might be the testosterone talking.

agreed. but not even What's the frequency kenneth. that song was an automatic channel changer for me.
