(On the other hand, the west coast has sandflies. Fuck sandflies.)

What is a sandfly?

Sandflies are like little mosquitos that bite and are a general pain in the ass.
They also keep you awake at night by buzzing around.

Dunedin/Otago is fucking amazing. Dunedin is pretty much a college town, but it was the pioneering city of the country, and visiting there explained so much about why half the bands the world outside NZ knows about come from Dunedin. The Otago Peninsula is great, as is Port Chalmers.

Records Records is one of the oddest record stores I've been to aside from Twisted Village. Once i visit that one record store in Cardiff run by Alan of Ankst, I will have completed the Global Triangle Of Great Really-Fucked-Up-Shit Record Stores (no offense to other great record stores with really fucked up shit.. I chose these as an arbitrary triangle.)

ive been there with my band, my disco, twice for touring purposes. the second of which was quite encompassing, north and south islands included, 11 shows allup in two weeks. pretty amazing place and some seriously amazing sights. to get a cheaper ferry ticket b/w the islands, you can perform on the ferry as mid journey "entertainment." pretty sweet idea for touring bands to latch onto i reckon.....dunedin/wellington and christchurch rule.

I especially liked the giant black volcano and the walking trees. Those were cool.

NZ was great (as was OZ). our band MOGGS toured there a year ago. We only made it to the north island though. Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington were our shows. 1/2 of NZ people live in Auckland (1.5 milllion)... so you should play there.

best,
Justin
