We used this kit pretty extensively all over the RPM challenge record I did a few years ago with a friend of mine:http://slowvol.bandcamp.com/Those are the old Aquarian heads that have been on it since I bought it. I need to get some new ones, but these are fine for me to learn on. This is more of a studio kit than anything, and I have absolutely no drumming skill, so I'm planning on teaching myself as I go.

NECRO THREADI still have this kit. It's in my basement. But, that's not why I'm here. I'm using this thread to document the 1965 Ludwig kit I just picked up.From the CL ad:13/13/16/20 w/ a Supraphonic (Ludalloy). 3-ply with re-rings, white Reso-Coat interiors. Sky Blue Pearl wrap.Dates are stamped inside all the shells, and they all match (Aug. 7 1965).This is a weird set configuration. I can't find any mention of it in the catalogs from the 60s. It's like a Hollywood kit (before they moved to the 12 and 13 toms in the late 60s), but with a factory-drilled 20" kick with dual-tom mount, rather than the 22" kick. I'm not sure how many 20" kicks are out there with factory dual-tom mounts, but it has to be fairly rare. Most 20" kicks were sold with the rail mount for use in a single rack tom config. Maybe this was a special order by the drum shop that sold it. I'm 100% sure this kit was sold like this due to the matching date stamps.Wrap on all the shells is in excellent shape. No fading from what I can tell. The cymbals are from the same period based on my research of the the stamp design, most likely sold with the kit when new. Zildjian 18" Medium Thin crash/ride and 14" hat set.Came with what I assume are original heads all around, save for one missing rack tom reso head.Speed-king pedal with wood beater. Hi-hat stand, snare stand, and cymbal stand are all from the same period. Original throne is missing its seat.I spent the last few nights polishing everything up. Chrome polish on all the metal, Novus 2 on the wrap. Amazing difference on the wrap. I thought it was in great shape before, but the Novus took it to the next level. The snare doesn't show any signs of pitting.I replaced the batter heads and the reso heads on the rack toms. Kept the rest of the reso heads. Snare batter head is still in decent shape, so I'll use it for a while.I'm missing a few small pieces of hardware. 1 rack tom tension rod. 6 tension rod washers. Two carriage bolts/nuts/lock washers for the rack tom mount in the kick drum, and one of the Ludwig-stamped domed washers that goes inside. Vintage replacements are already on their way.TO DO: Polish the stands and figure out what hardware is missing from them. I suspect there's a few things on the hi-hat stand that I need to replace. I know there's a missing wing nut on the cymbal stand.

Got everything re-assembled last night after the last of the missing parts arrived yesterday. Squeezed it into the basement next to its younger sibling. Didn't get a chance to tune it up or tweak the placement, as the kids were sleeping.

Those are just gorgeous drums, Nate. There's been a lot of joking about how drum deals seem to follow you around, even from state to state. This recent find proves that it's more than a joke!
