How loud is a Traynor TS-25?

With a low output guitar, I have no problem getting a clean sound out of mine. With hot pickups, I can't. As mentioned above, the reverb is nice. I payed less for my amp than I could have bought a cheapo reverb pedal! I'm going to answer my own question from the beginning of the thread about how loud they are. The answer is surprisingly loud for such a small amp. Plenty of volume for the pick up surf band but not quite loud enough for either The Ferries or Kahoots. It's been my go to amp to play through at home since I got it. Probably the best value I've ever gotten out of a piece of music gear.

Just tested the 25 and the 25B on a semi hollow with flats.25 - gain on zero, reverb on ten, everything else at 5. it still breaks up when you play the lower strings with any force, but if you specifically play cleanly, it's pretty clean. the reverb tank helps fake a little clarity, but yeah, lightly played, there's no breakup. This one had a haunted speaker. Never made noise the day I had it changed out by FM Tommy, but would always do this weird crackle that sounded like it was broken. I think he put a celestion in it/? It had the Def Leppard flag on the box.25B - gain on zero, Middle 6- Bass 6+ Treble 4+ volume 7. Fairly clean. Even with a bit of harder strumming, it doesn't really break up, but does have a touch of the solid state crunchiness to it. The extra headroom of the 15" speaker really helps, and the presence of the middle knob gives you much better tonal control. This amp has the stock speaker and has been hassle-free (knock knock) for ~6 years. It sounds nowhere near as clean as a twin.hth!

If you can get that reverb tank running, you'll like it a lot more. The tank is better than any pedal I've used. They're really sturdy, too. I've blasted some harsh stuff through that thing, and it's still been a trooper. I haven't played around with the boost switches on either in a long minute. I'll do that in a couple shakes.

They're super good for recording vocals. Think of it as a little vocal pa with gain. it works like one of those green bullet mics, but has reverb to add in. pretty slick.I just checked the boosts on my particular amps. boost off is cleaner in the 25 and boost on is cleaner in the 25B. the 25 got a little shrill with the boost. I was actually surprised in the improved clarity in the 25B. I guess for guitar, there's still a little headroom in the amp that the 15" can handle. neat. I've never really liked the amp for bass, unless it's for recording. has a nice 60s sound to it.

For lack of a better place to ask this -- can TS-25's actually produce a clean sound?I bought a beat-up one on ebay last year. No matter what guitar I play into either input, there's a fair amount of grit on it that I can't get to go away. It's cool-sounding in a way, but it also makes me wonder if the amp is working right. A friend recapped it; no change. He didn't mention seeing anything else blown up along the way.I haven't tried running a different speaker yet, but the sounds I'm hearing sound like they're in the amp and not the speaker.

Thanks!Hah -- I never realized you could run the gain on zero! I figured like most other amps, no sound would come out. So, trying that on mine, it does clean it up a good bit - though there's still this strange underlying fizz. This guitar has a pretty hot humbucker, but I keep coming back to that's a weird fizzy sound.Incidentally, the reverb doesn't work on this one, and I'm pretty sure the Boost switch doesn't do anything either. i.e. works perfectly on ebay.

I'm not generally a reverb guy, but it'd be nice to have the option for studio stuff. I'll crack it open sometime and see if something's obviously wrong. I do want to use this amp for recording, but the tones I get out of it now are fizzy enough that I don't think it'll record well.

I went ahead and bought the non-working TS-25 that I'd posted in the Craigslist thread. For $9.95, why not? Anybody know where I can source a reverb tank for it?

elisha wiesner wrote:Probably the best value I've ever gotten out of a piece of music gear.yup. all things considered, I got both my 25 and 25B for $155 total. I put a new speaker in the 25 that cost $25, and the old speaker is technically fine. I have lugged at least one to every show for half a decade and put them through all sorts of paces. Even with the beatings they take, they record wonderfully, and the gain section is perfect. I prefer that to most overdrive pedals, too. totally unfussy amps when they're working, and mine always have.I specifically like using it with just a guitar and cable, as it gives me enough tonal flexibility just through playing it that I don't need to use a lot of pedals, though it takes those fine. It's pretty, but if you hit it hard enough, it'll clang like a keyboard. It's helped me write some stuff that I wouldn't be able to with a solely clean or dirty amp, for sure. That said, I know very little about amps, and have often stumbled onto some keepers, and these are no exception.

Hello!I am lazy and cannot be bothered to open my TS25 up without asking this question first! The boost switch looks like it could very easily be exchanged for a footswitch jack, so that I might footswitch the boost with my foot. Can a person confirm this please? For some reason I remember the gubbins-casing being a painful thing to remove from the combo casing, hence my laziness regarding checking this for myself. Many thanks!Adam
