ok, i'm resurrecting this one. i never commented here before, because i had nothing to add to what was already said (not that that usually stops me...). i really like the first three albums (in fact, i recently re-bought them as part of that bootleg boxset that came with the disc of outtakes and such), time considered..., and my mind's eye. thus far, i've avoided everything but those, BUT i recently picked up a copy of their very last (to my knowledge) album, the glamour, and was wondering what others think about it. i like a lot of the songs, but it isn't particularly discernible as a comsat angels album to me. and some of it is a bit cheesy, 'specially the guitarwork. i think they added another guitarist and maybe had a different bassist, but i might be wrong and i don't feel like using the crap new allmusic guide to check. in any case, i'd rate it below my mind's eye as the least good of their good records. any opinions?

_the glamour_ was a disappointing album

i don't know....it's not like _my mind's eye_ is some kind of great, gradeable achievement. it's just a very satisfying record for me on the most basic level. it satisfies my subconscious and makes me really happy.

literally, i don't know if it's good or not. i love it when i run across a record like that.

_the glamour_ wasn't as bad as the dream command album, but it's not any better than _land_. i agree with you about _the glamour_.

ben

somehow, i have never heard the last two go-betweens records

and i loved the go-betweens

hmm

so they are worth hearing, in that 'this music may or may not be actually good, but it makes me feel good' way?

Bright Yellow, Bright Orange is fantastic.

The Friends of Rachel Worth is kind of like a pile of pubic hair.

tim,

yes. they are worth hearing. i like them both. lots. 'friends of rachel worth is not a pile of pubic hair. unless, of course, the pubic hair is candied.

for the uninitiated (to include me), their first three records have recently been reissued along w/ a fourth disc of demos and shit in a reasonably priced ($30) little box set thing. i'll probably buy that. they are good.

The reissue Comsat Angels box set is a ripoff.

It's four black cd-r's.

I would be the last person in the world to suggest this, but if you want those albums, go ahead and find them on the internet somewhere. I feel that would actually be more "moral" than buying this boxset.

And I actually bought the boxset! I read about it and then had my pal at the record store order one for me. $28, which is cheap, but pretty dubious, at best. Somebody is making $ on this, and it certainly isn't the band.
