I think Chelsea Girl sucks apart from "These Days." The music on Desertshore is amazing though. Shame about the singing. All in all, I'll vote Not Crap.

I think Chelsea Girl is as good as anything Nick Drake did--and quite similar in many ways.
The Marble Index and Desertshore are about as good as anything anyone ever did.
Nico is not crap.

Last night, a young gentleman who was trying to make me love him said, when asked about his views on the Velvet Underground:
"Nico sounds like a fucking muppet."
I respectfully disagreed.

Marble Index is a phenomenal record.
NOT CRAP.
Nico's life story is the very definition of sadness. There was a very thorough Nico documentary on the BBC, a couple of years back, and John Cale played an incredible rendition of 'Frozen Warnings' on the piano at the end.

Iggy also credits her with being a huge artistic inspiration, and has spoken of her with what seems like serious respect. (I read I Need More and Please Kill Me too: "Zhimmy, you must be totally poisoned...") The documentary Nico Icon was well done, and very depressing. Wtf, she gave her teenage son his first shot of heroin?? A haunting voice and powerful mystique, but most of her solo stuff tends to make me want to kill myself. I do like "These Days" and "I'll Keep It With Mine" at times, though.
