i minored in spanish...then i finished the classes and have barely touched it in some years...been hoping to get back to it, but i'm a very lazy person...at my peak i was decent at the written language, bad at the spoken language...i haven't forgotten everything yet, but i certainly have forgotten a lot...

I've learned 8 years of German,but here in Switzerland it's pretty difficult to practice german as the majority of people talk swiss german which is more of a dialect.It sounds very different from german and really unpleasant.In addition to that,swiss german from Bern is different from Zürich,which is different from Basel and so on.....
Switzerland is weird because you drive only 30 minutes and you're in a city where you understand nothing,but it's still the same country.
Last week end I went to see Dead Meadows and ...Trail of Dead in Zürich and it was a fucking pain in the arse to order a beer at the bar......again.

Is Swiss French the same throughout Switzerland? Is it the same as French French? I've never really heard of other Frenches except Quebecois, whereas I know that there are dozens of different Germans throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

I've studied Italian and Japanese, and have now forgotten all but the basics of both.

Hi, Swiss French is French French, the same as in Paris (for example).
Quebecois is the same as well apart from that unbelievable accent!!!!!!

Well, I'm Finnish so that comes pretty naturally. Also English, some French and Swedish. Hopefully I'll find the time and courage to learn Japanese and Spanish too.

quebecois also uses certain phrases and prepositions differently

i'm teaching at the université laval (quebec city) starting in september. it's going to be interesting; since i've used it mainly for research, i'm much better with written french than spoken
