Ha ha ha! The president visits troops! Authorities arrest terrorism suspects! The pope is still dead! And Mark Prior makes season debut for Cubs.

What is going on? Why is this national headline news?

What is going on?

I wouldn't consider it national headline news. Front page of the NY Times or USA Today is national headline news. There wasn't even an article attached to the yahoo headline, just a little blurb written by none other than Ryno.
I suppose that's a double whammy for Cubs-haters, though.
More offensive to me was the headline above the Prior headline, "Bush thanks soldiers for serving in Iraq."
Man, that's a good one. "I want to thank you for believing that this wasn't about oil. And thanks for letting me use you as campaign props, even as I lie to you and the world about the reasons you're here. Appreciate it!"

I blame Chad Kreuter.

If I can be asked to believe the idea that Chad Kreuter was solely (or even primarily) responsible for the huge brawl between the Dodgers bullpen and Cubs fans -- a fight that resulted in the suspensions of nineteen Dodgers players and the arrests of three fans -- then I don't find it that great of a step to believe that Chad Kreuter has the ability to plant headline stories in the American press.

Let us never forget the chilling and indisputable power that Chad Kreuter possesses over his fellow man.

Ha!

What I heard about Prior is that he still heavily considers the advice that his dad gives him, and his dad is looking out for his son's career. Therefore, everytime Prior feels a twinge of pain, he mentions it to his dad, and his dad tells him not to push himself, get on the DL, rehab, and then see if he can pitch.

I'm not going to jump on any bandwagons at this time. I see little point in bashing Prior or Wood so early in such a long season. Everyone knows the potential they contain. We wouldn't be talking about them if it weren't so.

I guess you've burned me, or something...
But I see no reason to abandon my argument. The person who I now know was Chad Kreuter is responsible for the "huge brawl" between himself and the fans insofar as he, as a grown-ass man with the ability to choose his own course of action, participated in it. My point was that someone yanking his hat away was a dubious reason for him and his teammates to get into a fistfight with drunken baseball fans. I think that point is still valid. He and his teammates are entirely responsible for taking part in the fight.
As I remember it, the fight took place in the stands. Therefore, it is at least arguable that the players took the fight to the fans.
I didn't mean to imply that the fight was entirely the fault of the Dodgers or Kreuter, if in fact that's what I did.
I can't believe I'm still talking about this.
Mr. Weissenberger, you are a tenacious bastard.

That fucking guy.
2001: .187, 12hr, 31 rbi, in 79 games. 89 strikeouts in 246 at-bats.
2002: .211, 16, 35, in 92 games. 80 strikeouts in 266 at-bats.

It looked like a typical pre-Jim Hendry Cubs move of signing a used-up veteran with decent power numbers, hoping he'd hit big in Wrigley. But I remember thinking when they got him that if he could hit .250 with 20 homeruns, it would be a good signing. That's not asking so much, right?
I was a fool.

If I'm not mistaken though, his season, pre-Cubs (also the season of the Wrigley "Hat" incident), was pretty good. Wasn't it? Like .290 90 RBI? That Hendry was able to trade his worthless ass is truly commendable.
