the only thing I've been reading for almost a year has been Proust's In Search of Lost Time. My to-read pile is huge, but I'm not letting myself touch anything else or I'll never finish it.

Trying to get through House of Leaves again.

The Steve Davis/Karvus Torabi book (Medical Grade Music) is very funny/entertaining although perhaps would be neither for non-UK folk. Also maybe if you don't like prog. I suppose it is something of a niche read, but nonetheless highly enjoyable!

I recently read We Had a Little Real Estate Problem - The Unheralded Story of Native Americans & Comedy by Kliph Nesteroff, which is a really well-researched history, almost all told by Indigenous comedy people. super fascinating.

been enjoying a book called Dispatches From the Front - Matthew Halton, Canada's Voice at War, which is a biography about a Canadian journalist/broadcaster who reported from the frontlines of WWII and interviewed all sorts of people along the way, like FDR and Gandhi, and it's also really interesting. it's also good because I like it and look forward to reading it before bed but it's also dry enough to actually knock me out so I can get some sleep, which hasn't been so easy the last...30 years.

but I put that down yesterday because I was sent a PDF of Tom Scharpling's new book, It Never Ends, and man...it's fantastic so far. about five chapters in and, as might be expected, I've laughed for sure, but it's also truly shocked me. really revealing and moving already and it hints that there's more of that to come. great, great writing so far. worth reading a book as a pdf on my stupid telephone for, even.

I've been reading a short story collection called Lands of Memory by Felisberto Hernandez. As the title suggests, a large theme or aspect of this collection seems to me to be the mystery of memories, in that they are often awakened in the narrators' minds at the sight of environments in the present that bear only the slightest resemblance to ones in the past, in turn these memories lead to an examination or re-examination of the characters' past, whether it be in the form of an honest remembrance of an old master or a realization of longing for the closeness of family that one may find in childhood, even a penniless one. All the stories are really wonderful but my favourites are "Around the Time of Clemente Colling", "My First Concert in Montevideo" and "Lands of Memory". "The Crocodile" is also fantastic and could be categorized as a classic, the type they might ask you to read at school if it ever attains a wide readership.

Alternating between Anti-Oedipus, Phenomenology of Spirit (since more than a year back), Horkheimer's "Selected Essays" and the Cyborg Manifesto, plus a pile of books on Renaissance philosophy for my paper. Also Neuromancer.

I read Infinite Jest during the pandemic (after failing miserably 1/4 way through Gravity's Rainbow) and I enjoyed it very much. I'm working through DFW's other books, currently reading A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again with its astounding David Lynch essay.

On the 4th volume of the Book of the New Sun set recommended in the "Most Metal Book" or whatever thread (Protoolio?) before the DOTF. Easily binged the first one in a few days during a snowy covid getaway and have been hooked ever since with all the turns and reoccurring elements... Any chance the Long and Short Sun books are on par?

Suggestions please.

I'm thinking about what to read during the summer. Already decided that I'm going to read up on the Reformation and Luther. Other than that I'm thinking of starting to acquaint myself with British empiricism. Thinking of either Locke (because he's very prominent) or Hobbes (because he's one of the early ones). Can I jump into blabla Human Understanding right away or is reading Hobbes first better? Any secondary lit that might be helpful?

Finish "Bright Light, Big City" a few days ago. It was alright. Has kind of a flow to it.
Right now I'm reading James Joyce's "Ulysses", again. This time with a copy of the annotated notes book which is almost as thick. Also, I just started "It Can't Happen Here". I believe the term that is best used to describe it is "timely". There is also a Battletech novel on the night stand that is getting little attention. It is garbage but some times you have to. read a little garbage.
