whats so bad about 5E. Just curious. Just seems like more D&D to me.
Re: Who was talking about Tabletop RPGs?
12I guess I like to play games where my character might definitely die and isn't a super hero, just a dumbass scrub. The point of 5e is to be a superhero. Just not my vibe, but I can understand why people like it. I have played a ton of 5e and I like it much better than 3/3.5 and 4. I prefer 2e or AD&D if I were to play D&D again. I could list all the reasons I don't want to play 5e ever again, but that's just a personal opinion and I'm not here to trash talk. D&D is great for what it is.
What I liked most about 5e was the wild magic table. I wanted more table rolling with unpredictable results. That's a reason I was drawn to DCC. The core the fantasy part of the game game is much more gritty and goofy, and death is almost certain. Funnels are super fun and I almost prefer playing them more than leveled classes. The funnel mechanic naturally creates a backstory for your character through playing multiple zero-level characters. Characters are created randomly with tables. Most of your characters will die, but the ones who live you can level up.
I love the mercurial magic system. In comparison to a system like D&D, where you can only cast a number of spells based on the amount of points you have to spend on them. In DCC, you can cast spells as much as you want. But magic is dangerous in nature, and casting spells overtime will corrupt the spellcaster. There's always risk in using magic and while the payoff can be rewarding, there's something about corruption that just makes it more interesting. Spellcasting is done using tables, making casting more fun and unpredictable, kinda like the wild magic table. The higher the role, the more crazy bonkers the spell gets. Roll low, you might vomit blood or your flesh may fall off your arm.
The core of the game supports more of your ideas instead of the publisher's ideas. There isn't much of a monster index, because the point is to make your own shit up. You can feel this vibe in the official and unofficial adventure modules. This tends to make metagaming not really a thing in DCC.
Overall, it's just a really fun system I enjoy playing and something I came across looking for more DnD. There's a ton of DnD fantasy flavor games out there, it doesn't have to end with 5e, if you're looking for more.

Re: Who was talking about Tabletop RPGs?
13If anyone is interested in playing some Dungeon Crawl Classics a couple of Saturday afternoons a month, here's my meetup. Next one is this Saturday. If you're new to TTRPGs, looking for a new game to try, have played DnD and want more, or just curious, you are most welcome to join. The meetup is structured to take any amount of players each session, so it's not required to be there if you cannot make it. Life is more important than games.

14I have two tackle boxes. If you want to deal with the extreme of the people you are describing try Battletech people.GuyLaCroix wrote: Fri May 21, 2021 10:43 am I love Bolt Thrower, but every Warhammer dude I have ever met had a tackle box full of minifigs, a military spec moustache, and a chip on their shoulder the size of Atlas Shrugged.
Me- "When did you get divorced?"
Mustache Man- "How did you know I got divorced?"
"There's a felling I get when I look to the west"
"When the meaningful words. When they cease to function. When there's nothing to say."

17The aesthetic is "extremely my shit" as the kids say.
It's easy to get spun up on, if it goes well maybe I'll run one for us here.

19Mork Borg is wonderful. Brutal combat, deadly traps, unforgiving difficulty.
I'm happy to run a game if we can get a few people in on it
