Re: Streaming Netflix/Hulu/etc. - what's good lately?

I don't stream so I don't know what's on at any given time, but I've been watching She-Ra every now and then for the past year. Looked it up just because some gamerbros were making a noise over it and it's actually quite fun and cute, nice art, would def be ok with watching with my kid. Catra is cool.

The series Kärlek och Anarki ("Love and Anarchy") has had everybody raving over here. Been meaning to watch it, but haven't gotten around to yet. I think Ricky Gervais said he loved it? Or I'm mixing it up with another show.

Here's a good breakdown of a pivotal scene and how the script and filmmaking interact:

I also really loved this movie, so much that I am scared of watching it too often.

Pariah is good.
Sophie Scholl: The Final Days is good but the title means what it says. No backstory.
Shadow and Bone is in a genre (YA "chosen one" fantasy series) that is bursting at the seams, but even taking that into account, it's pretty good.

There's an actual therapy show on Showtime's streaming service (we had a free trial for a bit) that's pretty decent, but I agree: I watched one (maybe the first?) episode of In Treatment where the patient fell in love with Gabriel Byrne and it seemed like some Letters to Penthouse-type shit.

Getting better with each episode
Yep! Their increasing bond is pretty sweet but admittedly the show is funniest to me when it's full on cynicism.

you're very lucky i don't ban you for posting that bullshit.
Care to expand on that? Curious what was so offensive.
Personally I liked every single episode of The Leftovers. I could see the ending not appealing to everyone. I dug it.

In other news…

I still recommend one streaming movie a week at https://anomalouscinema.com/

Everything on the site should still be active on it’s respective service. That’s over 125 movies.

My pick for next weekend will be River’s Edge which just got added to Amazon Prime. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a personal favorite.
Quitter / Canady tape and digital out now.

I've watched 'American Gangster' on Netflix and I was surprised by how much I've liked it - a really solid crime themed film with the cast killing it and no expense spared on sets apparently - everything seemed grand and luxurious (from movie watching perspective - meaning every bar seemed like an actual bar etc, even it the bar itself was decisively far from luxurious). Nothing earth shattering, but also nothing there was supposed to be. 2,5hrs well spent.

Tenet sucked and I wanted to like it.
