Both dated horribly, IMO. Ditto Tricky. Music for a future that never happened.

I feel bad for Portishead as that first record became the blueprint for a lot of garbage and its impact has lessened substantially as a result. But that formula is the best thing this whole scene came up with. The best pure idea. You could always see the working around the edges w/ Massive in terms of influences / vibe. A bit hipster magpie. I guess Massive covered more territory overall and were (generally) sonically very bold.

This Beak you mention is pretty good. I'd not heard of them. Definitely enjoy this better than Portishead.

I also love Portishead. But I find myself listening to Beak way more often.
