13"Waiting Room" was the first Fugazi song I ever heard, and I dismissed them for years because of that. But AcKsHuALLy that song is pretty--SHUT UP. It remains an ass garbage, awful, awful song. Stupidest vocals. Terrible song.

14I too had Warehouse as my first Husker Du experience and had to later backtrack into the earlier records. My Maine small town record stores would have stuff by bands I’d wanna hear, but it was often stuff from a little past a band’s “classic” era. This happened a few times where, for example, my intro to Violent Femmes was Blind Leading the Naked and my intro to Die Kreuzen was Century Days. I think Field Day was my intro to Dag Nasty… just all kinds of weird introductions like that.

16I'm trying not to use "b%^&h" anymore to describe the irritating admonishment we're referring to here, but even so, that point in the late 80s early 90s was pretty bad with a lot of hardcore scenes getting super jocky, and kind of having this self reinforcing toxic masculinity that defined scenes. I see a lot of that Fugazi "scene police" stuff as being a reaction to that, and you know what? It had an effect. Bands and venues started caring more about live performances being safe, welcoming spaces.

17^true. It's easy to be 'annoyed' by that stuff if you aren't playing to 1,000 people every night and occasionally seeing people leave in ambulances.

18The point about context is absolutely true and I may be projecting a bit here as someone who also believed for a while Fugazi could be kinda heavy handed and self-righteous. But audience has such a huge influence on whether or not you like a show, whether it be rock show, movie, or otherwise. So I absolutely cannot blame FM Geiginni or anyone else for reacting that way at that time.

19They were still far and away better than the first show I ever saw without my parents: a year earlier the RHCP with Fishbone and Big Drill Car. RHCP spent their set soliciting the women in the front of the audience and cruelling insulting anyone who rebuffed them. Fishbone, unsurprisingly, mopped the floor with them and played a great set.
