I love most of Nilsson, but damn, this song makes me leap across the room for the pause/skip/MAKE IT FUCKING STOP button.
I can understand why, but please don't tell me then that you like the song "Coconut"? At least not Nilsson's version?
It's not one I'd choose to listen to, but I might not get up to skip it. My antipathy for it is nothing compared to the bludgeoning "Call that a crescendo? THIS is a crescendo! No, THIS is a crescendo" awfulness of "Without You"

Is "Heartbreaker" by Grand Funk the blueprint for all power ballads to come after?

Total crap. There's a clear dividing line between rock bands writing a ballad in the 60s and 70s and all the shit loads of dross that followed Crue's 'Home Sweet Home' which created an awful formula; the identikit sounding twangy guitars over big reverbed out snare hits... gross. But I'm sure the reason everyone did it was it sold a ton more records for a good few years.
Crap wf payin' the bills, babe...

Rock was invented so we could have the power ballad. It is the ultimate form of music.
