I like the midcentury Infallible Rice recipe, in which you sauté diced onion in butter, and mix that with the rice. Use chicken broth or bouillon in place of water and, once it’s all mixed, put a lid on the pan and stick it in the oven to finish, rather than on the stovetop.
I make rice with Better Than Bouillon pretty reguarly.

It's a toss up re: white vs. brown.

Short grain brown rice would be our generic go-to starch as an accompaniment to something non-rice-specific.

I keep a variety of brown basmati, white basmati & jasmine, arborio and sometimes red rice in the pantry.

White basmati for Pakistani/Pashtun stuff. White jasmine for SE asian/Cambodian stuff. Arborio for risotto and gumbo and that kinda stuff.

White is my favorite but brown is better for me.

This stuff is the shit, chicken specifically. The beef is kinda weird.

It is kinda weird. It's what I imagine Bovril must be like.

I've used the vegetable base too - though it doesn't get used nearly as often as the chicken.

Well, sushi rice is kinda like Wonder bread, the way it doesn't get in the way of the fish. The same way they serve Wonder bread style buns with barbecue so nothing gets in the way of the meat.

Just don't say that to Hiro.

Also, Wonder Bread buns are shit. I'll take almost anything over that kind of bun. So not the best comparison.

Yeah. Sushi masters will insist that the rice is the most important part.

I've had some tasty brown rice sushi though. Not at all traditional but.. good is good.

White, basmati preferably, although that’s obviously dependent on the dish.
