12I have a grey-line Randall I bought off this forum (with the snappy name of RG80-112sc) and it rips!Nate Dort wrote: Mon Mar 14, 2022 8:47 pm I've yet to see a mention of the grey-line/orange-line Randall RG/RB-series stuff in this thread, but I've always like those. Kinda regret not getting that snakesking torlex one years ago when it was posted here.
Sort of a unique two-channels-at-the-same-time configuration.
Never had a single tech/maintenance issue.

14About the Roland JC amps: the weak link is the shrill speaker(s) that only sound acceptable for the cleanest of cleans. A friend has a JC-60 with an Eminence Legend and it sounds awesome (the distortion channel is a joke but everyone figures that out in 5 seconds).

15I really love the Marshall Lead 20 1x10 combo from the 80's. I use it at home all the time. We even used it on a recent recording for re-amping both the guitar AND bass DI signals, and it sounded awesome. I'd bet that in a blind test most people would never guess it was a little solid state combo and not a cranked 2203/2204.

17Those Randalls are great. I love the old yamaha stuff. I had a Garnet/Silvertone stencil combo in high school that totally ruled.
Kempers are the least rock and roll thing ever. I don't care what they sound like they can just go die. No-one has ever gotten pregnant because of a Kemper.

18Love the Traynor TS series, and the Sunn SS stuff. Glad there are modern recreations of those in some form, though I do think there's something about a shitty 70's SS power section getting overloaded that is missing when you run say the Hillbish stuff into a modern power amp.
I remembered recently that a friend & later bandmate once borrowed my 400RB and used it for guitar in 2003 or so with great results. Not surprised then w/ Peningtron and Pepper made it sound amazing w/ guitar!
While he seemingly shutdown his shop at just the right moment last year, I wonder if Ben would ever license a SS version of the Meatsmoke preamp circuit. That preamp is definitely one of the best bass sounds I've ever gotten.

19My little TS10 is awesome. I can always dial in a good sound on that thing and have used it for recording guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals. I also use a TRS splitter cable into the headphone jack and feed that straight into the Tascam. It can be a little noisy if the output volume is set too low, but get it just right and it's a great and very usable way to add some grit to all kinds of direct recordings.
I've also been having fun driving a Peavey 3600 with various sources. IVP, Rat, LPB-1, etc.
