Will Smith had been trying to play up his tough side for ages now. I guess this is less painful than “you saw my blinker, bitch” or the Bad Boys movies.

I approve of street justice in many cases. I don't have any problem with this , but isn't getting roasted at these shows is part of the deal? Will looked kinda dumb here, but whatever.
Part of me thinks it was scripted.

That was my first thought.
CRAP for many reasons. If Smith doesn't get any sort of punishment for this, it sets a horrible precedent.

On a scale of importance, this falls pretty close to the bottom. All discussion about who's right/who's wrong aside, people who are gratuitously clutching their pearls about Will "assaulting" Chris seriously need to watch more hockey.

Hockey is an enigma.
You slap someone in the NFL, you get flagged and fined. Possibly ejected if egregious enough.
I prefer the NFL's approach.

Jada Pinkett Smith has alopecia, so has shaved her head. Like Demi Moore did in GI Jane.
Got it. That's pretty whatever to me. I enjoy watching people in suits throw punches though.

If he really wanted to put on a show, he should have thrown Chris Rock off the stage like Uncle Phil would do to Jazz.

I used to pretty exclusively place hockey fights solely on male hockey players being overwrought manchildren, but having watched enough D1 and high school girls hockey games, there's plenty of shit that goes on out on the ice that is tantamount to the same thing. Sure, women aren't circling each other with fists up waiting for the first punch, but there's no shortage of elbows, back checks, dirty plays and physicality that goes on that is just short of fisticuffs retribution.
*statement of bias, I always have considered hockey fights pretty ridiculous, but I full admit that when my daughter called me from the road after a game in Duluth to tell me she got a Gordie Howe, I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little proud.

It was a joke, about alopecia, which, if there is a single medical condition that one could safely make fun of, that ought to be it, it's harmless.
I think Will thought it was funny, then realized Jada was mad, then he got mad at Rock, not at the joke, but for Rock's putting him a situation in which Jada was mad at him. So he felt he had to do something.
However, the bigger point to remember, IMHO, is that they all know the Academy is losing its relevance, and so are its members, and they know it.
The Academy is dying, there will be more of this.
