Honestly refusing to accept a binary because the framing underlying it is questionable, and having a good faith discussion as to why = never crap.
If it's an actual person (rather than goverment, society, straw man etc) asking the question, there's an inherent power move in going for the 3rd. There's always an element of "I know better." In some cases, that's absolutely the right move (particularly from a goverment, society, straw man etc) but done repeatedly with friends, it feels like an assertion of superiority. "Your question is beneath me/contempt" versus, "I'd probably go Blur, but I much prefer Pulp."
