I had heard that Tonic Room changed owners. Good for them! Old spot was weird and populated with burgeoning Lincoln Park chads and trixies. My band played there once with a side project from FM Evan/MPLSTV. I'm totally intimidated that I'm playing in concert with such an incredible drummer, so intimidated that I decided to bash harder to overcome any lack of musical sensibilities. We were loud as hell. Stupidly loud. Literally drove everyone out of the bar. They were watching from the sidewalk. Hilarious! Another friend who occasionally plays with Dungen played Tonic Room all the time with a Ween tribute band. They didn't seem like a bar that welcomed noisy rock music, so I'm glad they resurfaced as Golden Dagger and are curating weirdo rock shows.
I left Facebook months ago and currently have zero intentions on returning. However, I discovered Sexual Jeremy via one of the most reliable and cultivated music pages there. I miss that group. So much great content and interactions with folks.

I forget its actual name, but it is the No Wave group helmed by Weasel Walter among other stalwarts, musicians, and serious music fans.

EDIT: lots of good weird bands both old and new to be discovered. just wouldn't mention anything like the Jesus Lizard, whores., or Black Midi as they are usually praised 24/7 in other FB circles.

I finally got to see Sexy Jerry play today. Fans of Beefheart, US Maple, and maybe Sun City Girls should never miss an opportunity to see this band. Weird and fun show. The live experience is Not Crap!

US Maple and Beefheart are two of my all time favourites. I thought it sounded like a really generic take on them, which is pretty ridiculous in itself. Recording sucked for that sort of music. The name is dumb.

Aw snap! A new Sexy Jerry album!
Some of it gets a little too Zappa-esque for my comfort, but it still has some of the great Beefheart/Hampton Grease Band-like moments that were featured on last year’s jam.
