That's the one, thank you!
Assuming you're American, you must have had one cool import-buying girlfriend if she was bumping Chiastic Slide stateside in the late 90's. That album wasn't even distributed in the US until 2001.

I recall a lot of shit back then being import, special order, etc. Especially with electronic stuff. There was a store in Philly called 611 that was almost all rare vinyl of contemporary (circa late 90s) electronic, dance and hip hop.

Heh, by 'dated' I mean 'we hooked up now and again for years', so she might've picked that record up on import or more likely I'm just misremembering the time and it was post-2001 we were listening to that record.

There's a 60s/70s rock song, very recognizable, which starts with a "doom-dah, doom doom-dah" beat and a kind of wobbly, slidey guitar line while the guy is singing "Come on back home, and I get back to you, and I get back to yooooou" or something similar.
Sound familiar?

Nope, not that one. I'm pretty sure it's shorter, and the sound is sparser, and it kicks into gear immediately.

Kind of a long shot: late '90s/possibly year 2000 American underground band very influenced by the Minutemen: trio, kinda 'corndog' looking guys who may have been a little chunky. I wanna say they were from the northeast but this is all pretty blurry. I bought their LP after reading a glowing review and/or interview in Punk Planet, though I don't know what happened to it. I don't think they got much bigger or stuck around for long. So yeah.. long shot.
