Never accept USPS for anything valued over $50. That's where their insurance maxes out IIRC. If UPS hands off to USPS, that's OK, but if the shipper from end to end is USPS, forget it. I hate to say it because the USPS is an important public service that the far right have been trying to destroy for 20+ years, but unfortunately they can't be relied on for expensive stuff.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 5:49 pmThe Paypal guy I spoke to after it was refunded says that they reach out to USPS directly for stuff like this. He hinted that the first PP guy who asked me to get an e-mail from USPS had misunderstood, so I’m not sure how much more complicated that made it. USPS definitely had a ton of notes connected to the tracking from my calling, it was just kind of a chore to get them to read them when I called.tallchris wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 3:10 pm If Paypal just refunded you I'd guess the seller must have had several other disputes at the same time and maybe they just went ahead and did it?
I don’t think the USPS wanted to accept liability for the misdirection on the seller’s part which would be understandable if it didn’t almost cost me $900 because someone didn’t read
Re: Reverb scam I don't understand
12The default included insurance for items sent Priority Mail is now $100. Used to be $50, they increased it in the past year or two. You can also pay more to increase it, just like UPS or FedEx.biscuitdough wrote: Tue May 09, 2023 10:30 pm Never accept USPS for anything valued over $50. That's where their insurance maxes out IIRC.
Re: Reverb scam I don't understand
13What is this scam? I have something listed on Reverb and I get messages like so:
I'm interested!! Can you send me pictures to XXX@gmail.com or text XXX-XXX-XXXX.
I will arrange for pick up as soon as payment is received.
Thanks,
XXX
Are they just trying to farm my email address?Would it be possible to forward these pictures to my father's email address XXX@gmail.com? We are interested in purchasing it and would like to arrange for pickup as well. Thanks for your cooperation.
Re: Reverb scam I don't understand
14Depending on the scam, yeah, they're mostly just farming info. Anyone can get a phone number or an email off of publicly available data, but a known living person that responds to messages is worth more on the market of personal data information.
Re: Reverb scam I don't understand
15Every item I post on reverb gets full-price "offers" with messages attached like that within a few hours of posting. It's pretty annoying.
Re: Reverb scam I don't understand
16Are there red flags when you receive an offer, but they want to pick it up in person (I do not have it listed for local pickup currently?)
I assume that I would take payment safely online when I accept the offer, but I wonder what someone could be trying to pull.
I basically don't trust anything anymore.

Re: Reverb scam I don't understand
17I've had people pick-up in person before. Some like to pay via Reverb's payment system because they want to use a credit card or something. Others have given me cash at pickup (which I prefer because it avoids all the fees) at which point I just cancel the order.
Re: Reverb scam I don't understand
18I think Nate is right, but Paypal requires a proof of delivery, doesn’t it? Wasn’t there a scam going around where someone pays w/ Paypal, picks up the item w/o hassle, then later files an item not received claim?
Probably not an issue with Reverb payment, I’m not sure. I just remember hearing about it w/ Paypal specifically

Re: Reverb scam I don't understand
19Like a bunny I pulled the trigger on a Princeton Reverb 65 reissue with a Celestion, priced way too good to be true on Reverb. It was way too good to be true. To their credit Reverb were onto it within 5 hours and I had an email telling me to dispute the transaction with PayPal. Just a heads-up that they are out there. I should have realised, in my excitement I failed to notice zero feedback for the seller.
