Re: Can we pressure Beyerdynamic to reissue the M380?

The mic itself sounds good, pretty good natural sound for an inside-the kick application.

Visuals don't really matter that much but...ugly as hell tho innit - at least the dumb ass stickers on the yoke anyway (& that name - was it named by a edgelord gamer from the early aughts?) but the mic itself looks cool - I'd peel that sticker off the side immediately. I'm also always a little nervous seeing anything that's been built w/ a hard-wired cable.

It's also a little on the pricey side for what it is, but in fairness I have been considering one of the U47 fet clones from Warm & they're 2x as much and intended app is/was much the same.

oh good catch. I did not realize AU dollars

Not so great for live though - having mics inside kicks is super helpful in a live setting although not crucial. You just won't get nearly as much attack out front and it's not like I have time to set up a batter side mic.

great thread! would be nice if Warm Audio would make their version of a M380.

in the meantime I had the chance to buy a mic that might be relevant to this thread. got a great deal (260$) on a Roswell Mini K47 KD that was only used in 2 sessions.

„The Mini K47 KD is a handbuilt microphone for high SPL applications: kick drum, floor tom, bass cab, brass.
We've retained our incredibly popular K47 capsule, as found in the Mini K47. We've crafted a new circuit that is optimized for high SPL capture with minimal noise, huge bottom end, and high headroom."

I set it up last Friday at band practice on my 1/15 mesa cab together with my M380. and it really delivers a similar low end but also picks up more high frequencies than my (pretty old, never serviced) M380.
great mic! will have to test it on the bass drum too.
