I like Disappears but haven't listened to them since the name and personnel change. One of my favorite lines from the old PRF is about this band: "Their music sounds like they wear sunglasses while in the recording studio". lol

Definite "sunglasses at night" vibe to the lot of this but no bother. Never thought I'd be into something so goth-y but here I am.

Been jamming the live Present Tense joint on bandcamp a lot the last week+. Some blurb I read plus the heavy PIL and Phantom Payn vibes of the whole discography seem to have pulled me in... Seems I've missed a couple three gigs here. Bummer. So it goes... Never dove into the Disappears stuff but Irreal is sounding pretty good right now...

NC but waffles for some of the glitchy guitar bits that could (need to!) be riffs. But the rhythm section is why we're all here ya?

the original disappears lineup was awesome and seeing them live was like walking through a time machine. as they moved through time i found each new performance less and less interesting and they've reached their apex with this tuneless nothingness. i don't care how great noah is (he's pretty great) it can't fix the fact that these "songs" are hot garbage.

numero group is releasing all of the 90 day men albums in a box set, another band with a similar trajectory - first EP and then the split with gogogoairheart were so good and then they fell apart.

This kind of defines many of the "best" current Chicago bands for me. Undoubtedly awesome and talented and exhilarating to watch, but they don't write songs that I have any interest in listening to outside of the live experience. See also Dead Rider.

yeah, Dead Rider at the beginning was a breath of fresh air. the original lineup and the second one w/ Thymme was great at being weird, but tight. absolutely menacing synth bass. sounded like they could explode at any minute. however, the last few times i've seen them the new lineup just sounds too polished, there is no danger anymore. sounds like session guys and i love the drummer. something is off.
