It’s basically a giant pub that doesn’t sell alcohol or have a pool table. You sit in your corner with your pals and hear the murmurings of the arseholes a few tables away, sometimes having to interact with them as you make your way to the bar or toilet.

A fuck cesspool of stupidity and evil. Probably the single biggest waste of time I ever spent online.
If it stopped the world would be a significantly better place.

This. This right here.
I’ve never done cocaine, let alone had an addiction to it, but I’d compare it to the point on a cocaine addiction when you get all of the compulsive behavior, all of the jonesing for a spark of something, but the actual euphoric thrill has long since worn off.

I always found the idea of having a conversation in public a bit weird. I guess if you're dissecting or exposing social and political issues then it makes sense, but I think good journalism already had that box ticked?

on The one hand we got president trump
On the other we got the Arab spring.
I don’t understand things like blue checks and random character limits and I should because I spend a lot more time there than the average user so they must be doing something wrong.
Trump and the Arab Spring in hindsight are kind of similar.

I don't use Twitter, but I do think:
1. It's great as a PR / promotional tool and offers a level-ish playing field w/ the potential of meritocratic outcomes (though is inevitably often a conduit for mob mentality, but c'est le vie). I like how Michael Malice uses it, for example.
2. It's exposed the thorough mediocrity of the majority of the institutional class, esp journalists (who feel the compulsion to sign up and contribute out of necessity to promote themselves and then reveal how dumb they are in the process - most gratifying!).
Now anybody can see that high status person x (works at institution y, educated at z, is a 'serious' person as a result that you (pleb) should respect, etc etc) spews out hot takes that operate at the same intellectual level as your uninformed colleagues blah blahing at the office social.

Another waffle: Private quote-tweets. They shouldn't be listed. Just teasing you.
