This. I could cook without butter, but a Jambon-Beure requires butter.PASTA wrote: Sat Oct 14, 2023 8:16 am Y'all are nuts, the only answer is SUICIDE. can't live in a world without both.

12I love making flapjacks with olive oil for the crispy edges but mostly because in my hands I can never find the temperate sweet spot with butter and it always ends up burning.
Overall I am a fan of butter and overuse it in everything. I'll drag my finger across a stick of butter for a quick taste, but never have taken a thimbleful of olive oil.
Butter
Also, please keep one stick of butter in a butter dish on the counter. People who don't have softened butter on demand are savages.

13Clarified butter/ghee is what you need, as others have mentioned. Save the pad of butter as a topping.rsmurphy wrote:I love making flapjacks with olive oil for the crispy edges but mostly because in my hands I can never find the temperate sweet spot with butter and it always ends up burning.

14Olive oil smells gross when you cook with it and tastes gross if/when when it has a flavor at all. BUTTER

15Can't make pesto alla Genovese or aioli Provençal without olive oil.
Bread and butter is fine but bread with Catalonian aioli and rosemary is the truth.
Olive oil gets that crispiness on the edge of a Detroit style pizza and the edges of a lasagna.

17My ibicenquian wife makes aioli in the traditional balearic style; Just oil, garlic and salt. And patience. Rather heavy on the stomach recipe but yeah, accompanied with bread is sooooo delicious.

18Much of the time I see butter as a condiment and olive oil as a cooking medium. Most of the time if I'm frying (sauteing) something it will be olive oil unless I need high heat or a deep fry.
Sure, I'll start the veggies for a creamy soup in some butter, but the idea of replacing olive oil with butter in all applications sounds to me like pouring half and half on my cereal. Rich dairy flavors can be good but also overdone. I'll keep my butter in my baking though.
Shit this is all waffles.
