'94 I was 16, and pretty sure I was into whatever MTV and my local 'modern rock' station deemed 'cool' at the time. I built up my CD collection thanks to BMG Music Service, which had deals like 'buy 1 CD at full price, get another at 5.98' or something.

Another one for '94:
Smashing Pumpkins - Pisces Iscariot

Even though it was like a compilation of b-sides/unreleased tracks, I loved this album. Just the variety of the songs.

Yeah, it was a formative time for young Zorg....Teenager of the Year and At Action Park were jams. That said, like every supposedly "Best Year in Rock".....SO MUCH CRAP we don't talk about any more and harbingers of doom lurking in the background like Insane Clown Posse. Also, '92 and '93 weren't a slouch either.

Like most things, at the time it didn't seem particularly special.

But I was also getting the impression that independent rock was fraying into far less appealing (to me, anyway) commercial and/or niche (electronic, so-called post-rock, free noise) directions.
I think there’s a lot in this statement. It definitely feels like the tipping point that what was the feeding frenzy for what was “College Rock” went from bands that weren’t started to ride the wave, rather than got caught up in it.

Btw all 1984 means “crap”, not “1984 was a better year for music”

Oh, shit, sorry. I accidentally crapped on 1994 then.

(If I could do it again: NC but some waffles for the street team.)

Morning haste...

Done! Thanks for explaining that to my distracted ass.
