I'd like to see a movie where Texas finally secedes, and its power grid goes down immediately due to lack of federal funds. Ken Paxton journeys across the state in a replica Pope Mobile ('88 Oldsmobile chassis) distributing flashlights. That would be realistic.

I definitely don’t think this a great film. But it was a good attempt. It didn’t feel like I wasted my time. But that was more because of the set pieces rather than the overall themes. It was basically a collection of events going from A to B where the characters are supposed to go on an internal journey. Did that succeed, not really but there was some good acting and moments along the way. The cinematography was really good, if very A24.

I enjoyed it. The ending, as I recall, was bad, not in character for the Dunst character they'd built up. I liked that CA and TX had teamed up.

The obvious phoning in of the ending with the "if I died would you take my picture?" question rolled my eyes so hard they are in the wrong sockets. I can fix it though. In the end [spoilers] when they are running around the white house and Kirsten Dunst is kinda not doing much and the annoying girl is doing all the photography the young girl should actually be the one that takes the bullet and dies. Kirsten Dunst without hesitation should just snaps a pic of her corpse and move on, because she is the Pro. Pro gear... Pro attitude!

HARD CUT TO BLACK AND CREDITS.

Nothing else needed to happen in this movie, since not only did they fail absolutely to develop anything about the presidents character, but there is zero resolution anyway.

This movie fucking sucked.

Texas votes to succeed and hours before it is ratified, the US sells Texas back to Mexico for a peso and acre or something. US builds wall along NEW Mexico border. KEEP OUT TEXAS!

I did not realize Kirsten Dunst is in this film. I may have to watch it now, regardless of quality.

They needed the ending as the Inglorious Basterds style lib wet dream of offing a third term president.

But yeah, it was awful.

I watched this recently. Think the point was to realistically depict reality of a modern civil war on U.S. soil, which I thought was largely successful. I don't really understand the critique of "but how did we get here? who are these people? TX & CA wtf?" etc.

The last ten minutes had some primal appeal, but were iffy as hell and I was aware of the manipulation while watching.

I think trying to present a civil war without any consideration for the causes of that civil war is pretty similar to talking about the Civil War without acknowledging the causes of the Civil war.
