sonic youth was _incredible_ at the show i saw on this tour, in seattle. crazy horse was very good, but sy stole the show.

played mostly old stuff. they were unhinged and fed off the crowd the whole time. the audience reaction was great--1/3 excited yelling, 1/3 vociferous booing, and 1/3 befuddled silence.

one of the best sets of rock music i have ever seen, along with a show on the _sister_ tour that they played at cabaret metro--the one that's bootlegged as _hold that tiger_.

what a weird band. i have seen them be best-ever twice and immensely dull twice, and just kind of ok a couple more times.

Welcome to my world, Bradley R. Weissenberger, is world without it. These Bomb Squads, whatever they do, I don't know it and I don't care. If it is Public Enemy, then I know for sure I don't like it, and I also think it is stupid, comically-tittilating, mock-confrontational over-wrought nonsense that has no appeal for me. I am not in either of its target demographics, neither : A) urban black youngsters searching for outside recognition of their condition, nor B) sub-urban white youngsters with anthropological curiosity about group A. While this is not for sure the only way to "get" it, I am prevented from to "get it" the easy way.

So, "great voice," huh? Okay. Bill Withers -- great voice. Al Green -- great voice. Tiny Tim -- great voice. Johnny Cash -- great voice. Chuck D? Okay, Bradley R. Weissenberger. Okay. How do you feel about Shaggy?

I remember owning an "NBA Superstars" video in which a reel of Hakeem Olajuwon highlights was set to "How Ya Like Me Now."
This would have been around 1988, when Olajuwon was rounding into form as one of the greatest centers ever.
I dug the song, probably in part because I was 12, and partly because The Dream was so fucking smooth he could make even Kool Moe Dee seem cool. So Mr. Dee has that going for him.
I half remember a war of words between Kool Moe Dee and LL Cool J. It's telling that he'd be bothered with a trifling chump like LL.

I think that those Public Enemy records are really unique, cool, intelligent and powerful.

Kim Gordon is awesome. Her playing & vocals are usually the saving grace of many lame & alt-rock-ish/pansy-arsed Sonic Youth records, despite a few cringeworthy moments. On the more vintage Youth records, she's pretty incredible.

her bass playing is not amazing, but her singing is

'cross the breeze is probably my favorite kim vocals song. awesome song.

Chuck D is a phenomenal vocalist and lyricist.

And Kim Gordon is a fine lyricist and songwriter.

Her voice, on the other hand, has always rubbed me wrong. I could say more beyond that, but it would be too meanspirited. Let's just say I wish Lee would sing more.
