so i just cast the tying vote (for now) with a CRAP making it exactly 50/50.
I like a lot of their songs and ideas, however once I saw the documentary (i forget what it's called) I got really upset. Thom Yorke is such a fucking hole. He is constantly whining and complaining. He doesn't want to be a rock star. What the fuck? He is in a hugely succesful band that is making millions doing EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT TO with total creative freedom. Wow that sucks Thom, Im so sorry.

my vote = not crap. reason follows:

-i've been playing guitar now for the past 9 years. in college, i received my minor in music with a specialty in guitar performance. the study of modern music and the modern classical movement were integral to the program, and honestly, many might be surprised that the offbeat, electronic and syncopated samplings that are radiohead have been done before. and no, i do not mean by other pop/rock/industrial/etc. musicians. i mean as a 20th century classical art form. to say that radiohead makes "smart music for stupid people" is just to show unknowledgeable you are of the history of music. they have taken an musical art form, woven in their own characteristic style, and made it available to popular culture. i believe that is a truly bold and great move for a great band in the midst of nu-metal angst thrasher, emo-sissy off key whiner, and fist-pump poser bands. sorry for the intrusion

goodnight!

sorry schnapp, you're response is very characteristic of people who have no education of this style of music. and the reason i quote myself above is because i did not say that they solely take their cues from 20th century classical music, i said what i said above. most people would absolutely hate - yes, you included - 20th century post-modernism in classical music. but post-modernism is being more and more frequently involved in the popular media of today. have you ever watched fight club? any quentin tarantino film? how about music...read some nirvana lyrics. bush lyrics. go deeper - the concept of the matrix. and that is just scratching the surface at the media that hits the mainstream full force. there is much more available. radiohead's appeal is in their uniqueness, derived from these roots - but it does not just stop there, nor did i ever say it did. they have a unique vocal style, they typically sing in similar keys (d minor, c minor), they use a lot of harmonic minor scales when they harmonize. all these are characteristic radiohead sounds, perfected on ok computer and continued with a different feel.

don't take offense, don't post rude replies without any backing. it just further proves how too many people post on these boards in ignorant and opinionated blindness.
