I know that Dave always used either a pearl or Tama deep snare (14x6? maybe 14x5.5) mostly maple wood snares. i tihnk i saw him periodicly use the stock snare that came with his set, which is a metal snare. On in Utero it certainly sounds like a wood snare. You also have to take into acount the way Dave plays as to why his drums sound the way they do.

The first album is great...one time I tripped on shrooms and listened to it for 9 hours...the second one is pretty good too. The one with Grohl is horrible. not crap

For a heavy rock band they sound curiously un-heavy to these ears. 'Feelgood Hit Of The Summer' is a song in a million, but overall....shit, this is tougher than I thought. Okay, just about N/C, but you could open a diner with the amount of waffles stored up.

I think Eagles Of Death Metal are better, actually.

And I like High On Fire. A lot. High On Fire have (to my knowledge) nothing to do with QOTSA, but with people mentioning stoner rock....The Queens just sound so timid next to Matt Pike and co.

The distillers have always been up there with The Donnas on my "man, who must they be fucking?" list, but I think this thread has answered exactly who the lead singer is fucking.

No One Knows was pretty catchy and all that, but overall what a dull fucking band.

not crap -- i only own the first album, but i like to listen to it once or twice a year... when i do, i turn it up nice and loud on headphones. i've heard that they never did anything good after the first record... but i haven't been able to judge for myself yet... i don't think i like the first album so much that i'll be buying another one by these guys.

I think this is a good band. Their guitar wankery is top notch, they had the rock live, and they don't seem overly arrogant or pretentious....so a vote of not crap...I wouldn't mind fucking that chick from the distillers either

Not crap - Especially the The first two albums and "A Song for the Deaf" from the last one. Agreed that the guitar wankery is kept to a stylish, effective minimum. Although, if this girl from the Distillers is the same one that sang on the last Desert Sessions release then, yeah, not good...
