He has a methodology that involves more than indiscriminate knob twisting. Most of his imitators suck because they make no concessions to rhythms, dynamics, sound placement, etc. Also, his body of work is pretty diverse (considering), which also distinguishes him from his imitators, who hit a dead end the moment they turn on their Blue Boxes.
Another reason his imitators suck so hard is that Merzbow is, well, inimitable; in other words, his stuff has character, a quality that the Merzbozos lack.
I doubt that he collects his bodily by-products in jars for display in his living area; I suspect that the Merzdorks do.
