not crap WF: 6 just 'cuz no one needs to release that much 'music'.

He has a methodology that involves more than indiscriminate knob twisting. Most of his imitators suck because they make no concessions to rhythms, dynamics, sound placement, etc. Also, his body of work is pretty diverse (considering), which also distinguishes him from his imitators, who hit a dead end the moment they turn on their Blue Boxes.

Another reason his imitators suck so hard is that Merzbow is, well, inimitable; in other words, his stuff has character, a quality that the Merzbozos lack.

I doubt that he collects his bodily by-products in jars for display in his living area; I suspect that the Merzdorks do.

Lower :WF: (3?) because someone so prolific (makes the Fall look like Boston) can't possibly get it right every time, and even if he did, I couldn't afford it all.

seeing Merzbow live is still one of the absolute most AMAZING experiences of my life...it was just this one steady SLOWLY building drone...halfway through this unbelieveably heavy bass came in and i could feel my ribcage shaking inside of me...sadly, i have very few of his actual albums...a month or so ago i picked up Merzbuddah and he blew me away all over again...

i've only heard a bit. some was good and some wasn't. aqua necromancer was a good track. his side of the split with aural torture mechanism (every "merzbozo" has a split with merzbow -- i didn't know this at the time) sucks.

the guy has put out SOOOO much stuff and i'm sure some is good and some isn't. maybe some day i'll get something like merzbeat to see what he sounds like in a "catchier" setting.

there's a website for a guy who reviewed the entire 50 (!) cd merzbox, one cd per week, over a year. he totally runs out of steam.

wrek in atlanta played the whole merzbox back to back over 3 days. that is fucking hilarious.

i kind of like the fact (well, at least, i find it amusing) that this guy exists, he's put out 300 cds (or however many) of classically inaccessible music, and that he is respected/tenured/whatever enough for someone to actually review a 50 cd set, or to play it back to back on air.

the guy is probably a misogynist -- well, at least indisputably a pervert (perversion isn't necessarily bad, misogyny is) -- what with his whole s+m obsession thing (and you that shit gets bad in japan) -- he's literally written BOOKS on the subject. he also does live soundtracks to live s+m shows.

I thought he did it all via laptop now?

I like it, but I dont really know why, I like noise.
My pretty pony! Why, Zorak, why? You could have had any woman you wanted! But you chose the woman I love almost as much as I love myself! You ruined my life, you ruined her life, and now, I'm going to ruin your life!!!
