Good points, but that won't happen here.

Bush will appoint someone just to the political right of Attila the Hun. Bush will appoint an ideologue who is incapable of moderation.

We will see at least two more people in the Scalia/Thomas mold on the Supreme Court. I have heard that Idaho Senator Mike Crapo is on the short list. Mike Crapo's voting scorecard received 100% approval from the Christian Coalition.

I feel like my country is being stolen from me. I don't feel overpowered. I feel ripped off.

Justice Crapo?

Yes, Rog. Justice Crapo.

Kray. Poe.

I see the joke! His last name has the word "crap" in it!

He is an appropriately named man.

The guy who wants to replace Senator Crapo is named Butch Otter. Butch Otter is an incredible name.

Things to keep in mind to keep up hope... Bush is at an all time low in approval which means he is loosing his power and grip. The war too is at a low as is enrollment in the armed forces for the past 6 months (with a small bump up this month due to school letting out... how twisted is that?!). My hope is that this will help with his choice of successor for O'Connor as someone both sides can agree on. The less power he has, the harder it will be to confirm a full on righty.

Must...keep...up...hope.......

Well, he made it to the U.S. Senate. Granted, he's from Idaho, where I'm pretty sure that moe ron could get elected to the Senate if he called himself a Republican. But he's still in the Senate. I mean, that's something. Isn't it?

FYI -- Mike Crapo sucks.

These guys don't think that way. They get more entrenched.

Zero chance of a Souter. Zero.

After having a fairly decent Friday morning, the afternoon just went to political shit.

What is particularly disturbing is not only thinking about WHO is going to be put in the newbie chair, but obviously WHAT is going to come up for perusal by the Supreme Court in the next 30.

All I can say is...oh Christ.

no pun intended.

But I digress. Please continue with the squirrel circuit semantic debate.

I think Bradley is right. The last several years have proven that these folks are far too focused in their malevolence to settle for a justice who is merely "conservative." They have been waiting 15 years, since Clarence Thomas, to stick another sick maniac on the Court.

The coming battle will be more degrading than a barrel of Terri Schiavos.

O Connor resigns. Oh shit.

Obviously, Justice O'Connor's retirement is not the best news. However, there may be a silver lining, as Bush is in a tight spot in the polls and is going to have to gamble his remaining support on pretty much anyone he names. I read an interesting article by Robert Novak today; here is the link:

If the Dem's play their cards right (and it's about time they got it together!), this situation could wind up further weakening the administration's death-grip on our country. Of course, this could just be wishful thinking. We will see.
