Teenage Fanclub was amazing! Catholic Education and some of those early singles were great. Bandwagonesque is, ok, sickeningly sweet, but a fucking masterpiece that'll remain one of my favourite records forever.
I think they've grown older really gracefully. Yeah they've mellowed out a lot, but their songwriting appears to be genuinely more considered and 'proper' now, and as much as i dont like the newer stuff as much, i still look up to them and regard them as a benchmark of songwriting prowess. The vocal harmonies, for example just got cleverer and better.
When Brendan O'Hare was in them and for a few years with Paul Quinn they were fucking great live.
Brendan's stoner-psychedelic-ROCK band Macrocosmica was fucking amazing live as well, although they split up last year
