London Explosions

We've been told to stay in our office (just off Ludgate Circus/Fleet Street). Bizarre mix of normal work and slightly edgy gossiping here. I was due to meet some friends for drinks this evening in Soho. Currently think fuck it, let's have an all-night bender - that'll show 'em! Not sure if my girlfriend will be up for it though...

I'm dreading the coming weeks. I have a horrid feeling the immediate culprits will be used to provoke another rightwards lurch. I'm experiencing this rising anger and it's quite frightening.

I know it's too early to start ranting about these things, but you're right. This is it, isn't it? Tony Blair's been given all he wants on a platter. Now that we've been 'hit' I'm worried that the natural reaction of the average person will be to accept things like trials without a jury, draconian additions and amendments to terror policy...

And it's not as if the hard line helped resolve the IRA bombing, is it?

As an Indian mate of mine just emailed me: "man, that's what's upsetting. The darkies will be blamed."

Tense times ahead!

Very scary indeed!!!!
I spent 4 years in London, my university was in Whitechapel, so during 4 years I stopped at Aldgate East almost every day.
I've been trying to reach my few londoners friends on the phone and it's just impossible to get to them.
I hope they're ok!!!!!!!

Someone I know up in Scotland said just yesterday he was protesting and surprised by the amount of police from London were up there. Perfect timing, from the attackers point of view.

Now it's time for us to go crazy, Orwell style. ID cards ahoy.

You think the papers will have the balls to bring up Iraq?

I'm picturing Bush sitting there right now rubbing his hands together saying "Is there anyway we could convince people it was North Korea?"

Glad to hear from all you guys in London. This is totally grim. BBC website now says that Al Quaeda are claiming responsibility.
Not much else to do now except periodically check the news to see how bad this thing gets...

What a terrible tragedy. The people who did this are fucking bastards.

Tony Blair's reaction was well rehearsed. He should be an actor in a soap opera, rather than a leader.

I feel sad, especially because people thought that an event like this was inevitable in London.

I hope all you Londoners are safe...
