i think they shoulda broke up right when he left, which was what, like 4 years ago or something?

Different Damage is a really good record.

Listen to 'so many animal calls'.

fantastique!

i was so put off by them the times i saw them live that i didn't even pick up the album. maybe they only bit nuts live.

The band I'm in opened for them and Minus the Bear. Chris, you have it backwards, minus the Bear is assholes, Q and not U are nice guys.

Jeremy

I concur, opened a couple shows for Q and no U a few years back and they were extremely nice dudes. Have never played with Minus the Bear, so I can't comment on thems.

Gods, yes. And let's not forget the band they sprung from, Smart Went Crazy. We opened for them the night they broke up. I've never seen another performance like that.

As for Q and not U: Heavens, no! What will their stylist do?

07-16 Brooklyn, NY - Siren Music Festival
07-17 Asbury Park, NJ - Stone Pony
07-18 Washington, DC - Fort Reno

what is your source for this info, out of curiosity? i just checked the Dischord site and they have the band playing two shows a couple months after the Fort Reno show listed here as their last...

q and not u seem nice enough, well only talked to john but he was a nice enough dude. i thought they were an ok band but not enough to carry the dischord torch, were there one. i agree the voice was a little ick -- probably #1 reason why i only listened to each record once. shudder to think. duh. fugazi. duh. smart went crazy. totally! black eyes and q and not u? not so much................

I liked q and not u a bunch. Not too much, just enough. I never met em, but I assumed from their "approach" that they were pretty alright dudes. I'd like to hear another good album from them. Alas, I wasn't expecting one, and won't as it turns out.

Thanks to whoever reminded me to listen to more smart went crazy.

You can find the statement on their website:

I am very upset by the news. This was one currently active band that I have been quite excited about for a while. I really felt "Power" was an impressive album, and was a nice progression and growth for them not only as a band, but as individual players of the band. I have been anxious to hear new material after reading months of internet rumors of current recording sessions and demo sessions (which I still don't know ever happened) I honestly thought they were doing something great, and enjoy each of their releases in a similar fashion. I respected their sound as part of the Dischord catalog in that it was unique and not just a carbon copy, (or even worse) a polished up faded imitation of some...
"Different Damage" is no "No Kill No Beep Beep", which is no "Power", etc., and that is just one of the reasons I really enjoyed the band. Each album (obviously tons out there do, but there are millions which don't) carried something familiar, yet had a new, fresh feel which drove it.
I had only gotten to see them live once, but it was an amazing show. That was about 2 years back now, when they were out for "Different Damage" and was a really inspiring, humbling, and tightly powerful show. Black Eyes and French Toast also played that night and well, all together, made for a great night. I will be upset to see this happen. Really one of those "say it isn't so moments."
well, anyway.
Just wanted to post the link, so it isn't seen as just some crazy internet gossip.

all the best
